Frequently Asked Questions
Foamex is a solid, dense board that takes double-sided printing well and gives a smoother, more premium finish, which is why it suits retail and shopfront signage. Correx, with its corrugated internal structure, is lighter and cheaper but single-sided only. If a polished, solid feel matters more than cost, Foamex is generally the better choice over Correx.
Because ink sits on the surface rather than soaking in the way it would on paper, elements placed too close together can bleed slightly into one another during printing. Leaving a small gap keeps fine details, like adjacent text or thin lines, crisp and properly separated rather than merging at the edges.
3mm suits lighter indoor signage where weight and cost matter more than rigidity. 5mm is the step up for outdoor boards or larger panels that need more strength to resist flexing. 10mm is the heaviest option, built for freestanding signs or anything that needs to support its own weight without a separate frame.
Drilling too close to the edge weakens that section of board and risks cracking or chipping around the hole, especially once it's under tension from being mounted. Keeping holes at least 25mm in gives the board enough surrounding material to hold the hole securely without compromising its structure.
A smaller hole becomes harder to drill cleanly and is more prone to cracking the board around it, especially on the thicker options. 5mm is the smallest size that can be reliably drilled without risking damage to the board, so it's set as the minimum for that reason rather than a design preference.
