To ensure the best quality print, please follow these guidelines:
-
3mm bleed on all sides
-
Supply artwork as CMYK PDF (PDF/x1a:2001 recommended)
-
Embed or outline all fonts
-
Image resolution: minimum 150 dpi
-
Maintain a 5mm safe zone from each edge (10mm preferred)
-
Keep key design elements 25mm away from drill holes
-
Minimum font size: 18pt, minimum line weight: 2pt
-
Allow 1mm spacing between close elements (e.g. QR codes, small text) to avoid ink bleed
For custom shapes and drill holes, include:
-
A magenta “Cut contour” stroke (0.25pt, no fill) for cut paths
-
A yellow “Cut contour drill” stroke (0.25pt, no fill) for drill paths
Drill hole centres should be 25mm from the edge, and the drill path should be at least 5mm in diameter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Dibond's strength comes from its aluminium composite layers, which aren't designed to take print on both outer faces the way a solid plastic board like Foamex can. It's built primarily as a premium outdoor signage material rather than something meant to be viewed from both sides, so single-sided production reflects how it's typically used.
Indoors it isn't exposed to UV, rain or temperature swings, so there's very little that would naturally degrade it over time. Outdoors, UV exposure gradually fades the print and general weathering affects the surface finish, which is why a realistic outdoor lifespan is given even though the aluminium structure itself is very durable.
Yes, noticeably so, the aluminium layers add real weight compared to Foamex's lighter plastic foam core. That extra weight is part of why Dibond feels so much sturdier and more premium, but it's worth factoring into how you're planning to mount it, since it needs stronger fixings than a lightweight Foamex board would.
Dibond has some flexibility and can be gently curved for certain applications, but it isn't designed to be bent sharply around a tight corner without specialist fabrication. For a shop fascia or similar application, it's generally used as flat panels fitted together rather than one continuously curved sheet.
As a general precaution, metal signage should be kept a safe distance from overhead power lines and electrical equipment, following standard health and safety guidance for working near electrics. If you're planning to install a Dibond sign anywhere near power infrastructure, it's worth getting professional advice on safe clearance for your specific site rather than relying on the board's material alone.
